the ghostly spirit collection
remember Boo? they've got friends ...
the ghostly spirit collection!
Created from one of nature's most unique woods, my cypress knees come from Coushatta, LA. Cypress knees are distinctive structures that protrude from the root of a cypress tree. Their function is unknown, but they are generally seen in swamps in the southern U.S. Some scientists believe they may help in 'snorkeling' oxygen down to the submerged root of the cypress tree and assist in anchoring the tree in the soft muddy soil. Other scholars suggest that the 'knees' provided vital protection to the tree against dinosaurs during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods (hmmm, who thinks of these things). My supplier follows timber companies that harvest adult cypress trees and has no use for the knees and discards them. I only enhance and unlock the spirits that are born from these discarded knees.
Boo is up at the top. The creation on the left has three ghostly spirits formed from one cypress knee, a pumpkin jack-o-lantern tower, a Senor Meow and a few bats - Los Tres Amigos! Painted in acrylics, stained and sealed,

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Her!
... died approximately 5 years ago. Originally a Chinese bottle gourd, Bonita was raised down south and has been brought back to life just in time for Halloween. Her human (my) hair can be cut if you prefer a shorter look (it certainly won't grow any longer). One of my recent one-of-a-kind favorite pieces. There won't be many ... I'll run out of hair ...
